Community Chicken Noodle Soup

Hello friends!

In light of this gloomy May weather, Kaitlin's strep throat and the general blergness of finals; I've decided to make some chicken noodle soup.

One of the advantages of six roommates is that if you're out of something, somebody else probably has it. So if they contribute some ingredients, I give them some of the finished product! Which is why I shall call this post, "Community Chicken Noodle Soup."

I also love the show Community.

I also tweeted this pic between finals today. Community is my life today.

Kallie contributed carrots, Blayr donated a stalk of celery, and Kaitlin unknowingly gave half of an onion.  [Sorry that I stole from your onion omelette supply, sicky.] This whole everyone contributes some and gets to enjoy some will someday be written into a wonderful children's book where I will use all of my preschool knowledge to write a sweet story, Kaitlin will doodle the pictures, and we'll make millions of dollars and be rich. RICH, I TELL YOU!

Anyway, if you've never made homemade chicken noodle soup before (like me), then here are my tips:

  • Defrost and cook chicken before doing anything else. I was in such a hurry to make things (as always) that I had chopped onions, carrots, celery and a pot of broth just sitting out forever while I defrosted, deboned, cooked, and shredded the chicken.
  • Egg noodles can be substituted for about any kind of noodle.
  • Parsley is overrated.
  • Chicken broth, once opened, only last about 2 weeks, if refrigerated. I threw away two different roommate containers of broth before opening two new containers. I'll probably have to throw away the second container in 2 weeks, but hey, who cares, they are like 50cents each. [I thought there was a cent key on the keyboard....am I redonk ?]
Also, I made my friends let me take their picture eating the soup. Like Kaitlin and I's motto, if you don't take a picture it's like it didn't happen.

Kallie being a great sport.

Close up of Kait. For everyone's benefit.

Soup precooking.

Finished soup. MMM steamy.
