Community Chicken Noodle Soup

Hello friends!

In light of this gloomy May weather, Kaitlin's strep throat and the general blergness of finals; I've decided to make some chicken noodle soup.

One of the advantages of six roommates is that if you're out of something, somebody else probably has it. So if they contribute some ingredients, I give them some of the finished product! Which is why I shall call this post, "Community Chicken Noodle Soup."

I also love the show Community.

I also tweeted this pic between finals today. Community is my life today.

Kallie contributed carrots, Blayr donated a stalk of celery, and Kaitlin unknowingly gave half of an onion.  [Sorry that I stole from your onion omelette supply, sicky.] This whole everyone contributes some and gets to enjoy some will someday be written into a wonderful children's book where I will use all of my preschool knowledge to write a sweet story, Kaitlin will doodle the pictures, and we'll make millions of dollars and be rich. RICH, I TELL YOU!

Anyway, if you've never made homemade chicken noodle soup before (like me), then here are my tips:

  • Defrost and cook chicken before doing anything else. I was in such a hurry to make things (as always) that I had chopped onions, carrots, celery and a pot of broth just sitting out forever while I defrosted, deboned, cooked, and shredded the chicken.
  • Egg noodles can be substituted for about any kind of noodle.
  • Parsley is overrated.
  • Chicken broth, once opened, only last about 2 weeks, if refrigerated. I threw away two different roommate containers of broth before opening two new containers. I'll probably have to throw away the second container in 2 weeks, but hey, who cares, they are like 50cents each. [I thought there was a cent key on the keyboard....am I redonk ?]
Also, I made my friends let me take their picture eating the soup. Like Kaitlin and I's motto, if you don't take a picture it's like it didn't happen.

Kallie being a great sport.

Close up of Kait. For everyone's benefit.

Soup precooking.

Finished soup. MMM steamy.

About Me/Introduction

Hello!

After many blog attempts and half-hearted required blogging for classes, THIS TIME I'M GETTING SERIOUS.

This is not a how-to cooking blog. This is my life, through food. [Because my life is pretty food-centric.] But hey, you may pick up a few cooking tips along the way.

So I guess to explain in recipe format:

  • A sprinkle of pop culture gifs.
  • 1 quart delicious food pictures.
  • 2 cups of embarrassing roommate photos.
  • A dash of my own humor/sarcasm.
  • The occasional recipe/recommendation for something cheap and easy to make.

I reserve the right to make up/alter this recipe as I go along, because that's how the best chefs do it anyway.

Also, I know that recipe quantity doesn't make sense. It's like the ratio of Stanley Nickels to Schrute Bucks.

It's the same as the ratio of unicorns to leprechauns.

I know that there are A MILLION cooking blogs out there, but most of them are gourmet [I'm not cool like my friend Emilie, who has a totally legit cooking blog you should totally check out]. We're not quite that classy here in Casablanca. We eat real, simple food. I'm going to refer to my roommates a lot, because we live in this cosy little home that we call Casablanca [because it's a white house, get it?]. Also, it was my roommate Kaitlin and her mother Sue who encouraged me to start blogging, because they are so so good at it. So go check out their blogs also.

Lastly, here's me:

Buzz, your girlfriend. Woof.

If you can't tell, I'm dressed as Quailman. Pretty much sums me up.
